Join Herbal Alliance for the upcoming webinar: ''We Can’t Be Well Until the Planet is Well: The Role of the Botanical Industry in a Time of Environmental Crisis'' by Ann Armbrecht.

Herbal medicine promises a vision of healing that is rooted in an ecological concept of wellness, one that is better for people, plants, and the planet. Yet, the plants used in herbal products are often sourced and handled with little concern for this broader social and ecological vision. In this talk, Ann Armbrecht will talk about her work telling the stories of the people and places behind finished herbal products. She will share insights into the issues and challenges the botanical industry faces and thoughts on how herbalism can be a system of healing that uses products that do create the healthy, resilient human and ecological communities needed for us all to thrive.

Ann Armbrecht, an anthropologist, is the director of the American Botanical Council’s Sustainable Herbs Program. She is the author of The Business of Botanicals: Exploring the Healing Promise of Plant Medicines in a Global Industry that documents her journey following herbs from seed to shelf. She is also the co-producer of the documentary Numen: The Healing Power of Plants and the author of the award-winning ethnographic memoir Thin Places: A Pilgrimage Home, based on her research in Nepal. Ann was a 2017 Fulbright-Nehru Scholar documenting the supply chain of medicinal plants in India and she lives with her family in central Vermont.
