This book is wonderful as a companion book to be used alongside the Heartwood Foundation course in Herbal Medicine but would also be great as a stand-alone general introduction to Herbal Medicine.
It is easy to read with a wealth of information beginning with the origins of herbal medicine and covering topics such as plant science, the human body and food and nutrition.
It also contains 15 key plants used in herbal medicine, how they are used, recipes and case histories.
The book is well laid out and easy to follow with colour photographs, diagrams and drawings. Perfect for a student on the first steps to deeper study or just for someone who would like to develop their understanding of Western Herbal Medicine more. There are so many interesting concepts in the book about natural health and how to treat common conditions such as insomnia, IBS, menopause etc.
I thoroughly recommend this book. I completed the foundation course at Heartwood and the material in this book was the basis of the course. It is really thought provoking but also the authors, Anita and Mary, make it fun to read. They are wonderfully engaging as tutors and as authors and from starting with a curiosity and mild interest in herbal medicine but knowing practically nothing about it, I have now gone onto further training to become a professional medical herbalist, thanks to the enthusiasm, love and professional knowledge conveyed throughout this book. I hope it has the same effect on you.
