A unique and essential textbook bridging the gap between herbal medicine therapeutics and orthodox medicine.
Based upon a constitutional approach to treatment, The Handbook of Constitutional and Energetic Herbal Medicine is a synthesis of the traditional herbal approach integrated with biomedical constructs.
While this holistic approach to treatment may seem incompatible with the biomedical approach, this is largely due to the lack of understanding of the medical interpretation of holism.
In fact, the spirit, mind, body axis can be understood in terms of psycho-physiological processes and principles. It is a matter of interpretation and adaptation of principle.
This book will appeal to those involved in both complementary and mainstream medicine seeking a holistic approach which is rational and interpretable in biomedical terms.
By (author) Andrew Stableford
Andrew Stableford trained in herbal medicine with the School of Phytotherapy, qualifying in 1983, following a first degree in psychology. He initiated, developed and continues to run a successful herbal medicine practice in Lincoln. He joined the University of Lincoln in 2002, initially on a half time basis and full time from 2006. He was the programme leader for the BSc (Hons) Herbal Medicine and led the development of the course over the next 16 years, in particular for the third and final year. This was a unique opportunity to develop an academically rigorous professional programme which relates both to the way in which herbal medicine is practiced holistically and to scientific principles.
