Synopsis

The first comprehensive book on microdosing, using new research and extensive reports from individuals to describe the expansive possibilities of the practice.

Microdosing is presented as a safe and powerful approach to addressing a wide range of health conditions while also enhancing performance. Partly responsible for the development and growing popularity of modern microdosing, the authors answer hundreds of questions by blending rigorous research with detailed personal accounts from contributors around the world. The book also includes wide-ranging discussions of microdosing history, research, and science.

People have reported using microdosing as a powerful tool to support a broad range of mental, physical, and emotional well-being goals. Many describe relief from symptoms of depression, ADHD, chronic pain, and even long COVID, along with noticeable improvements in focus, mental clarity, and physical performance, including sports. Others have found it helpful when tapering off pharmaceuticals, particularly antidepressants and stimulants, while also developing healthier habits around food, sleep, and relationships. Beyond these practical benefits, microdosing is often credited with increasing self-awareness, emotional sensitivity toward others, and a deeper connection to the natural world, all while reducing stress and anxiety.

About the author

By (author) James Fadiman

James Fadiman, PhD, has been called “America’s wisest and most respected authority on psychedelics and their use.” A pioneer in psychedelic research and co-founder of transpersonal psychology, he is best known for his mid-1960s studies on LSD and creativity, as well as for his seminal role in developing modern microdosing.

Shifting his focus after psychedelic research was banned, Jim returned to psychedelics with his 2011 book, The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide: Safe, Therapeutic, and Sacred Journeys. He has been researching microdosing for more than a decade, examining potential benefits for mental health, cognitive enhancement, physical and creative performance, and overall well-being.

Co-founder of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now Sofia University) and a former president of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, Jim was featured in Michael Pollan’s 2022 Netflix documentary series How to Change Your Mind. He has written two novels as well as several psychology textbooks and other books, including 2020’s Your Symphony of Selves, co-authored with Jordan Gruber.

By (author) Jordan Gruber

Jordan Gruber, JD, founder of Enlightenment.com, has a law degree from the University of Virginia and both a BA in philosophy and an MA in public policy from Binghamton University. After practicing at Silicon Valley’s Cooley Godward and focusing on IP law at NASA’s Moffett Field, and working at Gnosis Magazine (a journal of the Western esoteric traditions), Jordan became “The Practical Wordsmith”—writer, ghostwriter, editor, and practitioner of many transformational modalities.

As such, Jordan has helped create cutting-edge works on everything from forensic audio and financial services to health, wellness, psychology, and spirituality. Recent efforts include a co-authored book on rebound exercise, the editing of two books on mindfulness for lawyers, a book on Jungian “shadow play,” and a guide to building a better physique. Gruber brings together his thoughts, experiences, and recommendations on psychospiritual practice and evolution in his Enlightened Stack Substack, exploring the synergy between microdosing, multiple selves, mindfulness, music, movement, muscular mysticism, and more.

Jordan and Jim live near each other and have been close friends since the early 1990s. Jordan contributed to Jim’s 2011 book, The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide, and in 2020 they co-authored their book on healthy multiplicity—Your Symphony of Selves: Discover and Understand More of Who We Are. In 2025 they were featured in over 20 podcasts or programs worldwide.
